En route to our grandiose destinations for the day, we'll leave the bustling city of Copenhagen behind to discover the Danish countryside and the wide variety of landscapes and quaint towns it offers. Together we'll go rural, coastal and royal as we stop to visit both Frederiksborg Castle, built to enhance Christian IV's status as an influential European monarch in the 1600s, and Kronborg Castle, from the 1500s, better known as Hamlet's Castle, due to one of Shakespeare's plays.

Starting with Frederiksborg Castle, the summer residence turned Museum, today houses The Museum of National History and presents 500 years of Danish history. We'll visit the castle and wander the grounds of the Nordic region's largest Renaissance complex as our guide share tales of bygone eras. Did we mention that Frederiksborg Castle sits beautifully on three small islets and has an impressive baroque garden and chapel? Be sure to have your camera ready!

From one castle to the next, next up is Kronborg Castle which towers above a very narrow promontory between the coasts of Denmark and Sweden. This, too, is one Instagramable spot! Did Shakespeare ever visit Kronborg Castle, and how did the Kronborg Castle become a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site? Come journey with us to find out!

If time allows, we'll include a short photo stop of Fredensborg, yet another royal residence, from the 1700s, in the area. So many photogenic palaces!

As we return to Copenhagen, we'll have immersed ourselves in Danish history and seen some of Denmark's best architecture. What's not to love?
